I really overthought my previous charging kit, but it was the absolute best for my use cases - Small, supported power delivery, and could get me through even the hardest days and make sure my stuff was topped up overnight. It could freely charge all my devices, supported fast charging from the battery and from the wall, and was composed of the minimum number of components I could manage with a split between Lightning and USB-C devices. It was also really slim and light - pocketable or easily tossed in a sling.
Anker PowerPort Nano III Slim 30w
Mophie 6000MAH Universal PD with Lightning Input
3ft USB-C to Lightning and USB-C to USB-C
Incharge X (On my key chain)
The thing that made this setup work is the battery supported priority charging - I could have the wall adapter connected to the battery, and the battery connected to my phone, and overnight it’d make sure the phone was topped up before charging the battery. In the morning I’d end up with a full phone and a full battery, and all was great! Single port charger suddenly became capable of charging two devices. I wanted to get in the ballpark of that setup while losing lightning with my new setup, and I feel like I made a reasonable jump with my new setup.
Anker 523 Nano 3 charger, 2 port, 47w
Mophie 10000MAH Powerstation (2022 Apple Exclusive)
2x 3ft USB-C to USB-C cables
1x 1ft USB-C to USB-C cable
This setup is a bit larger than the previous setup (About 30%), but has ~50% more charging output at the wall, an extra USB-C port, and about 66% more battery capacity. I’ve also moved to a single cable type, which is really key!
The new Mophie battery seems great, it’s dual USB-C inputs/outputs, supports priority charging like the old battery, and is still relatively compact. The Anker is of course awesome, supporting 27w on one port and 20w on the other, or 45w output when a single port is used - Enough to charge my Macbook Pro relatively well. I can easily top up my battery overnight while charging two devices, and now that both the battery and wall plug are dual USB-C ports, I can pretty much always charge two devices at once.
Overall this newer kit has really added flexibility to what I carry, and more importantly let me slim down on cable types. I can highly recommend Mophie products for use-cases like this, they tend to be a bit more expensive but the build is good and the features make it worthwhile for niche use-cases like mine.
If I could make any changes to what I’ve got going on however, it’d be dropping the 1 foot cable for a Nomad USB-C ChargeKey on my key chain, however living in Canada the shipping kills any hopes of getting this product for a reasonable price. I may end up sticking with the Incharge X on my keychain and dropping the 1 foot cable, as the Incharge is well built and flexible. There’s something to be said about keeping everything in one spot though.
