The display arrived yesterday morning and I wasted no time setting it up! I attached my Philips Hue light strip onto the back with some command hooks designed for light strips and reconfgired my automations. So far so good. Couple 1-day notes:
Packaging was stellar, really above and beyond on engineering the box.
Setup was issue free as expected - Plug it in and… It just works.
Speakers are pretty on par with the Edifier R980Ts that I had on the desk before. Great clarity and solid bass response.
The webcam is pretty much as disappointing as most make it out to be. Center stage is nice however, and honestly the exposure is solid. For most calls topping out at 720p compressed streams, it’s more than adequate. My Logitech Stream Cam was better, but the all in one solution is a big appeal.
Included Thunderbolt cable is really nice - Heavy weight, braided, feels rock solid. Unfortunately it doesn’t feed through the cable run in the back of the stand well, so I swapped it with my 1m Pluggable Thunderbolt 4 cable that I was using previously.
Colors and brightness pop! This thing is gorgeous in person. Love how it matches up well with my Macbook Pro display. Lightroom photos look awesome on the scaled 5k output.
I was able to achieve expected internet speeds via the monitor using a Plugable USBC-E2500 2.5gb ethernet adapter into one of the type c ports. This is due to the Realtek RTL8156 chip in it, which allows hardware offload. The more common RTL8153 you see in a lot of gigabit adapters on the market isn’t capable of that currently on MacOS due to driver issues from what I’ve read, so you tend to only hit half rated speed.
Overall so far happy. I’ll be tweaking the desk layout a bit over the next few months, first and foremost a desk pad that I can set everything on which should be in by Friday. Stay tuned for more updates!
